Postpaid Means a Bill, Not a Token

PLN meters come in two kinds. A prepaid meter has a keypad and is topped up with electricity tokens. A postpaid meter has no keypad: you use the electricity first and PLN sends a bill every month, usually due by the 20th. After that PLN adds a late penalty, and a bill left unpaid long enough gets the connection cut.

A token cannot be used on a postpaid meter, from anyone. What gets paid is the bill. On this page you can check and pay that bill with a foreign card, with no Indonesian bank account, no e-wallet and no PLN Mobile app. Not sure which meter you have? Read how to tell a prepaid from a postpaid meter.

Who It Is For

  • You rent a villa or an apartment in Indonesia on a postpaid meter in the owner's name, the bill is yours to pay, and your card is refused by PLN Mobile and the local apps.
  • You live outside Indonesia and want to pay the electricity bill of a parent's or relative's house. Ask them for a photo of the bill or of the PLN Mobile app, which shows the customer number.

It works from anywhere. The bill may be in someone else's name: the name on the PLN contract is almost never the name of the person paying, and that is fine.

What You Need

Only the customer number (ID Pelanggan), 12 digits. It is on the monthly bill, in the PLN Mobile app, or the owner has it. An 11-digit number is a prepaid meter number: for that you buy an electricity token instead.

A water bill is paid to the local PDAM, not to PLN, with the customer number on the water bill. That works here too: open the PDAM water bill page and read how paying a PDAM water bill works.

How to Pay

  1. Open the PLN bill page
Enter the customer number and press Check the bill.
  2. See the bill
We show the contract holder's name, the tariff and power, the months still open, the late penalty and PLN's admin fee, the rupiah total and the price in euro. Check that the name matches the house you mean.
  3. Pay
Pay with Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, iDEAL, Bancontact, or Wero. Before you pay we ask for your email address and send a one-time code to confirm it.
  4. Paid
The payment reaches PLN usually within 1 minute. You get the PLN reference number and a PDF receipt, on screen and by email.

Price and Fees

The price you see before paying is the final price. It already contains the bill amount, any late penalty, PLN's admin fee, our service fee and the payment costs. Nothing is added at checkout, whichever payment method you choose. The exchange rate is explained in how our exchange rate works.

If more than one month is open, they are paid together. A single payment is capped at €300.

Good to Know

  • No bill open? If the number is already settled, we say so and nothing is charged.
  • Refused by PLN? If PLN refuses the payment, for example because someone else just paid the bill or the amount changed, you are refunded in full.
  • Nightly maintenance. PLN closes its systems every night from about 23:25 to 01:00 Jakarta time (WIB). The bill cannot be checked then; try again afterwards.
  • Customer numbers can be saved once you are signed in, so next month is a single tap.

FAQ

The bill is in someone else's name. Can I still pay it?
Yes. The name we show is the PLN contract holder, not the payer. Use it to make sure the number is the right house, then pay.
My number has 11 digits. Why does it not work?
An 11-digit number is a prepaid meter number. A prepaid meter has no bill; it is topped up with tokens. Buy the token on the PLN Token page.
What if the bill turns out to be paid already?
If it was settled before you checked, we say there is no bill and nothing is charged. If someone else pays it at the same moment and PLN refuses your payment, you are refunded in full.
